The Salisbury, Md., retail business celebrated its first year anniversary in September, but Eastern Shore native Ken Sehman himself is no newcomer to the industry. He has been in the jewelry business in the local area for 40 years.

“There isn’t any question I can’t answer concerning any aspect of the jewelry business,” Sehman said. He is a certfied gemologist, graduate of the Gem Institute of America with a degree in diamond grading and colored stone identification. He specializes in fine gemstones, diamonds and jewelry appraisals for insurance purposes or for estates.

Sehman and his wife of 19 years, Madeleine, nicknamed Madsi, established their full retail jewelry store on Riverside Drive with the idea of offering very personal, one-on-one service to their customers. “We’re not a huge, impersonal store lacking in service. We’re very much service-oriented,” Sehman said. His pride and joy is being able to custom design and manufacture unique jewelry for his customers. Repairs can be done on mountings or stones. Chipped stones can be repaired, dull stones made to shine again. Lost stones can be replaced. Gems can be fitted into new, off-the-shelf mountings or master goldsmiths can hand fabricate a unique, new mounting just for you. “Working together in the store and trying to keep low overhead gives us the ability to pass on greater savings to our customers and to continue to provide personal service, which is always No. 1 with us,” he added.
