Peninsula Imaging’s radiologists and staff live in, and are dedicated to, the local community. It is their goal to service the community by providing the best experience for their imaging needs. With this end in mind, they have equipped their facility with the best imaging equipment available on the market today. The MRI machines alone demonstrate this dedication to their neighbors. Both of the magnets are large bore and can accommodate patients up to 550 pounds. Many patients and physicians do not realize that an “open magnet” sacrifices diagnostic quality in an effort to accommodate the claustrophobic patient. With twice the strength of a conventional magnet, the 3T MRI quickly captures images with unsurpassed detail and clarity. Because the 3T is stronger than any other magnet, it can acquire spatial detail to see the cranial nerves in the brain as well as the small ligaments of the foot and wrist. Equipment of this caliber is usually only found in the best of medical centers in larger metropolitan areas. However, residents of the Shore no longer need to travel to Johns Hopkins or the University of Pennsylvania as this service is now available just around the corner at Peninsula Imaging.
The 128-slice low dose CT scanner adds many comfort features, including a larger opening that gives an open feel, and a wider table that can accommodate larger patients. Furthermore, this scanner uses the lowest radiation available in the country. The CT scanner provides the option for less invasive testing procedures such as having a coronary CTA vs. a cardiac catheterization. Also, growing in popularity, Peninsula Imaging is the only local facility performing virtual colonoscopy. Not only is virtual colonoscopy less invasive than traditional colonoscopy, it also requires no sedation.
The location houses the area’s only permanent PET/CT which is one of the best single tests for definitive diagnosis of cancer. PET/CT can be used to evaluate response to treatment and the extent of the disease. PET/CT is also a valuable tool in detecting cancer reoccurrence.
Peninsula Imaging’s 14 board-certified radiologists specialize in all facets of radiology. These radiologists provide professional services to both Peninsula Regional Medical Center and Atlantic General Hospital. In partnership with Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Peninsula Imaging has a longstanding tradition of providing patients with high-quality, easily accessible, and patient-friendly options for their imaging needs. To this end, all studies are performed, interpreted and dictated on-site by radiologists who reside locally. The facility’s technologically advanced computer system enhances the capability to transmit test data and results quickly and accurately. Results are usually sent to your referring physician within a few hours. Online test results and images are also available to your physician. If desired, the radiologists are readily available for consultation with your physician.
Patient safety is a top priority. The clinical expertise and experience of the staff combined with the latest technology ensures that you and your family will receive the best care for their health. Peninsula Imaging partners with the Image Gently Campaign which is committed to providing pediatric patients with quality imaging while using low dose radiation.
