Sometimes Change is Good

Even in these uncertain times Atlantic Plastic Surgery and Anew MedSpa continue to grow and expand their role in serving the Delmarva Peninsula. Built on the core principles of quality care combined with warm personal service, Atlantic Plastic Surgery, founded by Dr. Jason T. Arrington in 2002, has continued to thrive even in these challenging economic conditions. At a time when most businesses are cutting employees, Atlantic Plastic Surgery is actually growing its family with two key additions. First on board, Lori Soley, a local nurse practitioner, joined Atlantic Plastic Surgery in January of 2009. Already an experienced professional, she developed an interest in skin care and rejuvenation medicine. Building upon that interest, she has had extensive training in the use of lasers and injectables. Most significantly, however, she brings to Atlantic Plastic Surgery and Anew MedSpa another key piece of the puzzle, a feminine perspective.

Arrington’s goals were at the same time both humble and bold when he started his practice seven years ago. He wanted to provide the highest quality cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery while creating an environment that reflects his unique sensitivity to patient comfort as well as patient care. “I treat every patient as if they were one of my mother’s friends,” he said. This attitude is demonstrated throughout the Atlantic Plastic Surgery staff.

Having successfully completed these goals, Arrington sought to expand the scope of Atlantic Plastic Surgery in 2007 when he started Anew MedSpa. Immediately upon entering Anew MedSpa, located in West Ocean City, one cannot help but feel a sense of serenity and note the attention to detail that went into creating this welcoming med spa. “Quality is the cornerstone of this operation; we don’t cut corners here.” Arrington stresses the fact that everyone in the organization is trained and licensed specifically to perform his or her duties. This commitment stands in great contrast to some establishments in the area that have either no supervising physician on the Shore or operate under the “name only” of practitioners untrained and uncovered in the field of rejuvenation medicine. Fortunately for Shore residents there are no such worries at Anew MedSpa.

Anew offers the full spectrum in skin care, from mineral makeup, Latisse, Botox and injectables to laser hair removal and skin rejuvenation. “By offering the entire spectrum of skin care, we are in the unique position of being able to do what’s right, not just what’s ‘in’!” Arrington said.

What happens once all the pieces have come together? Well, the hardest part is accommodating the ever increasing volume while maintaining that commitment to quality care. To be able to accomplish this goal, sometimes you just have to get lucky. Fortunately, fate smiled on Atlantic Plastic Surgery recently when Dr. Daniel Luppens walked through the door. “I could have easily gone my entire career and not been able to recruit a plastic surgeon who meets my level of expectations,” Arrington declared. Through timely good fortune, this local surgeon was interested in moving back to the Shore.

Luppens’ pedigree speaks for itself. After graduating from Duke University, Luppens received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University and then completed his residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University. He then completed two fellowships, the first at Grossman Plastic Surgery in Denver, Colo., and the second at Paces Plastic Surgery in Atlanta, Ga. While Luppens has had areas of specialized training, he has been careful not to limit himself. He plans to offer the full range of plastic surgery throughout his career.
One of the reasons Atlantic Plastic Surgery was able to entice Luppens to return to the Shore was through the help of Peninsula Regional Medical Center. The Medical Staff Office at PRMC is constantly reevaluating the medical needs of the Delmarva community. Two areas designated as significant needs were the treatment of skin cancers and of facial, hand and soft tissue trauma. Recognizing the superb talents and credentials Luppens brings to the table, PRMC was instrumental in helping to secure his position.

It would seem that even in these uncertain times, change is a good thing — well, at least at Atlantic Plastic Surgery. Change in this situation means being able to accommodate the ever-increasing plastic surgery needs of the Delmarva Peninsula. When Arrington is asked, “What could possibly be next for Atlantic Plastic Surgery?” he replies with a smile, “Well, I think it’s time to expand our availability to the patients from the Western Shore.”
