A Medical Care Center with a Focus on the Community

Sby Immediate Care Doc

Salisbury Immediate Care & Injury Center (SICIC) is No. 1 for a reason, and if you’ve used it, you know. If you haven’t, ask someone who has. After five years serving the community, SICIC is grateful for its patients’ continued loyalty. “Our goal has always been to serve Salisbury and surrounding communities with efficient, affordable health care for people who can’t wait for their family doctor, but probably shouldn’t go to the emergency room,” said Kent Rilling, chief operations officer and physician assistant.

With its complete staff always ready, the Center’s motto sums it up perfectly: “Bleeding? Broken? Infected?…or Just Hurts! Salisbury Immediate Care will see you NOW.” The Center — located across from Wawa on Route 13’s “S” curve — offers comprehensive urgent care services for all ages, seven days a week. “Convenient evening hours, Saturdays and Sundays, 362 days a year. We’re here at your convenience,” said Michelle Saburn, office manager.

Quick, efficient treatment

At SICIC, immediate care does not always mean “fast” health care but rather suggests the higher level of care that this medical center can manage. However, with an average visit time of 47 minutes from reception to evaluation, this is an incredibly convenient service! Open seven days, patients are able to schedule follow up appointments at times that are more conducive to their busy schedules.

When it’s an urgency, not an emergency

From sudden back pains, bleeding lacerations and painful fractures to sore throats, coughs and pneumonia, SICIC is equipped to evaluate and provide rapid diagnostic workup and appropriate aggressive treatment including nebulizers for wheezing, injectable therapy for infections or pain for rapid recovery. The Center provides quality orthotics to splint and stabilize injuries while offering referrals to local medical specialists for diagnostics such as CT scans, ultrasounds, MRIs and extended care services, when indicated.

“If you suspect you have something that needs immediate treatment to save your life, definitely visit the emergency room. We are not the place to go to for any life- or limb-threatening conditions, such as strokes, heart attacks or severe abdominal pain,” Rilling said.

Ronnie, a local small-business owner said he cannot afford health insurance. “My family and I have always received quality care from their pleasant staff. The main reason I go to Salisbury Immediate Care is because I can be seen the same day, without an appointment, and without the long waits I’ve experienced at the hospital’s ER. And the best part is that I don’t leave with bills for services that would’ve easily cost me hundreds of dollars elsewhere.”

Over the past few years, SICIC staff has helped us with everything from broken bones and sprains, to fevers, infections, and back/neck pains, It’s such a relief to know that there is such a clean, skilled alternative to the hospital ER or doctors’ office when a member of my family needs immediate care.

No insurance? Large deductible? SICIC works hard to provide the lowest cost for services without reducing the quality of care provided. “Our commitment to our patients is to provide the very best and most cost effective health care. See our Web site for a sample of the cost savings of a laceration repair at SICIC compared to an emergency room visit,” Rilling said.

Patient-friendly atmosphere

Immediately upon walking into the facility you know SICIC is not your traditional medical office. With patient privacy a priority, SICIC utilizes silent pagers to alert patients when it’s their turn to be seen. After you’re met at the door by a friendly medical assistant, you are led to a private exam room …with a Plasma TV to make your visit more enjoyable. “We’ve all visited a cold sterile medical facility, which is why the Center was designed to feel more like home and less like a hospital. We take every measure to make patients feel more at ease,” said Saburn. The X-ray room is a complete underwater retreat with sea turtles, dolphins and coral, taking your mind off the process. “This is the way health care is supposed to be,” said Debbie Killeen, wife of Dr. Vincent Killeen. “It’s a very restful idea and helps calm everyone, especially children.”

Samuel Hotton, a veteran of the United States Air Force, relies on SICIC to take care of him. “I go when I have bronchitis or strep throat,” said Hotton, 60. “Basically things you go to your family doctor for.” The Salisbury resident knows he won’t have any trouble getting an appointment. Plus, the staff always takes as much time as they need with each patient. “You just don’t go in for 15 minutes and then they shove you on your way,” Hotton said. “They are very thorough and make sure that you’re well-treated before you leave their office.”

As Will Morris understands, SICIC is not replacing the family doctor but offering an extension of the services his pediatrician provides. He says it’s difficult to schedule an appointment with a pediatrician when his two daughters, Allyson, 9, and Leanna, 5, are sick. But thanks to SICIC, his family doesn’t have to wait several days to receive care. “We found out that we could get in there and get treated much quicker,” said the Salisbury dad. “The staff is so helpful and friendly. It’s always a nice experience.”

Caters to community needs

While SICIC provides a variety of urgent care medical services, it continues to expand offerings under one roof to include gynecological services from sister practice The Center for Women’s Health; ultrasound services, including 3D and 4D, provided by RMS Sonography; onsite bone density scan services for early detection of osteoporosis from Dr. Edward McLaughlin; and enhanced and extended care injury recovery from partners Aquacare Physical Therapy and Coastal Physical Therapy.

“We take pride in providing Immediate Care services. After five years of serving our community, we thank you for your continued loyalty,” said Rilling. “To our patients, Salisbury Immediate Care & Injury Center is No. 1 for a reason: We are here for you!”
