Based on the traditions of Southern hospitality and the desire to provide great food for an even better value, Southern Boys Concepts was created by brothers Tom and John Knorr. The company owns a group of restaurants that includes The Red Roost in Whitehaven, Md., Boonies Restaurant and Bar in Tyaskin, Md., SoBo’s Wine Bistro in Salisbury, Md., and Bistro Cinq, a French restaurant in Antigua, Guatemala.
The locally renowned and nationally recognized Red Roost restaurant has been a hot-spot for natives and tourists of the Eastern Shore for decades. Purchased and renovated in 1996 by the Knorr brothers, The Red Roost now features an expanded menu beyond all-you-can-eat-crabs to fresh seasonal seafood and entrées as well as a gift shop stocked with local memorabilia. As one of the largest restaurants in the county, The Red Roost can accommodate large parties and events for up to 350 people. Group discounts are also offered. For more information about The Red Roost, call 410-546-5443 or visit www.theredroost.com.
Boonies Restaurant & Bar was acquired by Southern Boys Concepts in 2001 and was renovated to dramatically improve the quality of casual dining available. The restaurant now includes a back deck and tiki bar for outside dining and the kick-back-and-relax atmosphere so coveted by patrons who like listening to music while they have a few drinks or order from the full menu of the restaurant. Featuring high-back privacy booths, a full bar with full wine and cocktail lists and an expansive American style menu of seafood and steaks, the restaurant is the secret getaway of local residents. Parties of up to 50 people are easily accommodated in one area while parties of up to 30 can be served in another room. Take the drive to scenic Tyaskin, 16 miles from Route 50 on Nanticoke Road without stopping, and discover the hidden gem of Boonies Restaurant & Bar. For more information about Boonies, call 410-548-7879 or visit online at www.booniesrestaurant.com.
SoBo’s Wine Bistro, opened by the Knorr brothers in 2006, is a decidedly different venture in that this restaurant strives to introduce wine, upscale beer and the gourmet experience to customers. Featuring a progressive wine list with 100 New World wines and a micro-brew list with 40 different U.S. micro-brew beers, every diner can find one pleasing to the palette. To encourage diners to try a new wine, SoBo’s offers a 20 for $20 list — 20 select wines for $20 per bottle. As they may normally be more expensive, this is a great value and a great opportunity to try something new. With happy hours every day and some evenings, monthly wine events and monthly beer dinners, there are plenty of opportunities to try the extensive selection. In addition to the wine and beer menu, the food is contemporary American gourmet cuisine with great home-style value that is inexpensive. For example, SoBo’s periodically runs menu specials such as the “Four Course Dinner Fixed Price Menu” which includes rotating specialties of pick-your-own soup, salad, entrée and dessert for $25. Private dining for parties or corporate meetings of up to 12 people is available in a separate dining room equipped with a flat screen for Power Point presentations. Find out more information about SoBo’s by calling 410-219-1117 or by visiting www.soboswinebistro.com.
SoBo’s Wine Bistro has received many awards since it opened two years ago including The Metropolitan Magazine’s own “Best Of the Eastern Shore” awards for Best Wine List and Most Creative Menu. Wine Enthusiast Magazine has also recognized SoBo’s as one of the nation’s most wine-friendly restaurants with their 2007 Distinction Award for America’s Best Wine-Driven Restaurant of 2007 and the 2008 Wine Spectator Award. You will find information about its available selection of wine and beer on its Web site.
