Can you remember the last time you looked forward to going to the store, any store? All too often today’s shopping experiences involve hectic trips to crowded enclosed malls and “chain” stores, where you’re “treated” to impersonal service and the same merchandise you’ve seen a hundred times before. Even in the drug store it’s easy to feel like more of a prescription number than a person.
Craig and Dana Schury know just how you feel. A busy family themselves, with three children, they understand how vital it is to slow down and savor the important things in life, to shower those we love with personalized care and special pampering.

In 2007 the Schurys joined the Salisbury community. With years of experience in the retail pharmaceutical field, the time had arrived to fulfill Craig’s dream of opening up his own pharmacy. Pemberton Drive, just off of Nanticoke Road, provided a busy but accessible location. Dana’s background as an interior decorator enabled her to endow the new pharmacy’s gift area and window displays with a savvy sense of sophisticated charm, showering the business with a stylish sparkle more often associated with Annapolis.

The couple’s enthusiasm for their enterprise and their adopted community is reflected in every aspect of the boutique pharmacy they’ve created together. Customers come in and comfortably chat with Craig and Dana regarding medication or gift items, and seem to enjoy not only the personal attention, but the relaxed and undeniably attractive surroundings.

Even the pharmacy’s employees can’t say enough about how pleasant a work environment they’d been fortunate enough to find.

Bonni Burris had been a frequent customer at the pharmacy following her husband’s fire-related accident (he has since recovered) to pick up an ongoing supply of bandages and medication. Burris recalled with gratitude how Craig Schury stayed ahead of the orders and checked with her to make sure she had just what she needed. Today, she’s proud to be a member of the Pemberton Pharmacy staff, taking over for Lynsey Snovell, who operated the shop’s custom embroidery monogram machine before having a baby in March. (The pharmacy plans to also offer custom engraving at the store on silver and glass items, perfect for personalizing wedding and other gifts conveniently on site.)

From her vantage point adjacent to the store’s entrance, Snovell couldn’t help but notice the reaction of pleasurable surprise registered on customers faces when they first entered the store; it seemed to happen every time a new person arrived. “I’d hear them make comments like ‘wow, this is so amazing, everything’s so beautiful, what a great selection,’” she said. Snovell also conveyed how impressed she was being able to witness first hand how much work Dana always put into decorating the windows for each season and special occasion, an effort which seemed to be a labor of love.

Both the pharmacy and gift area specialize in providing the most up-to-date items to offer clientele. One such offering is “Medicine-on-Time,” a special service for people having to keep track of taking multiple prescriptions. Craig explained that it consists of a customized, safety-sealed pill cup which helps ensure that you take the right medicine at just the right time, helping to eliminate the nagging question of whether or not you or a loved one took their prescriptions properly.

Kids can choose from virtually any flavor imaginable to help their medicine go down, along with a free dosing syringe. Compounding, a large range of medical supplies, and free delivery (of prescriptions and gift items) is available. Pemberton To Go (Pemberton’s version of Curbside Pick Up) and free gift wrap are some other customer-friendly services available.

Original organic skin care treatments from Maine-based Indian Meadow Herbals and fun, fresh cosmetic lines like Mommy Makeup and theBalm offer a breath of fresh air for those seeking out specialty health and beauty items they haven’t been able to find locally.

Kids and grown-ups alike will appreciate browsing the toy selections from Melissa and Doug, Webkinz, Sassafras’ Little Cook and others. Decorative delights for the home include artistic picture frames, Paddy Wax eco-friendly soy candles, and Catstudio pillows. Fashionable, affordable jewelry from Coastal Swan along with funky, fun footwear can also be found. You can pamper your palette with gourmet treats such as Bella Cucina sun-dried pesto and Baltimore’s Pfefferkorn Coffee.

Just for fun everyday gifts, along with those for special occasions can all be found, including wedding, baby and mom-to-be items that are sure to be treasured. There is even a registry available.
