Inspring Landscapes to Dreamscapes
Earth and Stone Creations

Spring. For centuries, bright shades of yellows, reds, and green and relaxing golden shades of summer inspired French poets to celebrate the beauty of reverdie (re-greening). After a snowy winter, many of us are looking forward to spending time outdoors. While some choose to spend their time running, kayaking, and playing outdoor sports, others prefer to have the best of both worlds; enjoying the perks of outdoor life, while relishing the comfort and privacy of staying at home. In a region known for its hospitality and tight-knit families, Keith Newton, owner of Earth and Stone Creations, offers Eastern Shore residents the opportunity to enjoy endless hours of outdoor fun without leaving home. Want to go out, but don’t feel like driving? Why not invite friends over for a barbecue? No matter what your budget may be, Earth and Stone Creations offers customers numerous options to develop their home and property into a fun-filled, yet relaxing sanctuary.
A former deputy with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department, Newton started Earth and Stone Creations nine years ago as Coastal Landscaping while at working as a deputy. Although the company still carries the name Coastal Landscaping, Newton was searching for a name that was as unique as his work. “As the projects grew and the work became more custom and a reflection of nature the name just hit me one day, Earth and Stone,” Newton reflected.
Since its inception, Earth and Stone Creations has completed nearly 300 hardscape projects and has blazed an innovative path in the region. Awards. Certifications. Would-be customers, consider this fact: Earth and Stone is the Eastern Shore’s only NCMA-certified and EP-Henry authorized hardscaing contractor. Not surprisingly, Newton said, “They don’t just hand these titles out. I have worked very hard over the past six years to attend every hands-on school and certification school I could get my hands on. I travel to various regions every winter to learn new things. I would not just have anyone build my home and people should not look at hardscaping any differently. The day you think you know everything is the day you’d better close your doors and retire.”
Earth and Stone’s goal is to make the process of deciding on how and where to build your dream landscape as stress free as it can possibly be. Newton stressed, “We start with an initial consultation to gather ideas and what the customer is looking for from their outdoor living space. The biggest problem that I see is that people do not leave themselves enough time to plan for an outdoor living space, especially when it involves a pool. We actually want the customer to call us first so that we can design that backyard project and leave all of the guesswork out. I have actually thought of six things that homeowners should consider before they build a pool and listed them on our new Web site which should be ready to debut this spring.”
Earth and Stone prides itself on designing with your ideas and budget in mind and even offers a five-year guarantee on its work. Just ask a client named Sharon. According to Sharon, “Earth and Stone did a wonderful job on my project, from conception to completion. My project tested a range of services including design, landscaping, water features, lighting, pergola and pavers. They exceeded my expectations in their execution of these services with their professional, courteous and knowledgeable team. I can hardly wait to start on our next project together!”
With a growing family and successful business, Newton still remains active in the community. He is especially proud of his role in initiating plans to create a landscape and hardscape memorial in WinterPlace Park in memory of Sarah Foxwell. Newton explained his motivation stating, “As a former Deputy and parent, I wanted to do something that reflected what this community and its fine law enforcement did that week to find Sarah. She brought us together that week under horrible circumstances and I want everyone that visits this memorial to remember it and to continue to fight for our children. My men and I are very proud to be able to construct such a memorial that will carry Sarah’s spirit forever.”
